It has been the second time that Res-Drob took an active part in the "Meat Congress,"  a trade event allowing for the exchange of experience between business professionals. During the debate, one of the participants was Res-Drob CEO - Marek Jurkiewicz, who in interesting words described the development of the industry on the example of his own business: "We started from a processing line with an average speed of 4,000 birds per hour. Currently, we have a few installations operating at 13 500 birds per hour in the country and this is the global summit of processing raw materials. We are very close to the optimum. This allows to fight with the costs.”

Res-Drob for chicken welfare - European Chicken Commitment

To meet today's striving to raise the living standards of animals in general, including chickens broilers, and the needs of final consumers which we are ourselves and also following the recommendations of European and world’s organizations Res-Drob is joining the European Chicken Commitment  - initiative to improve the welfare of chickens farmed in Europe and world every day.

Therefore we declare:

 

  1. Compliance with regulations and legal requirements of the European Union; following new recommendations on an ongoing basis and working out implementation plans for all the criterias to be completed;
  2. Introducing the maximum density on farms to 30 kg / m2;
  3. Adopting breeds that demonstrate higher welfare outcomes which meet the criteria of the RSPCA Broiler Breed Welfare Assessment Protocol;
  4. Meeting improved environmental standards:
    • At least 50 lux of light, including natural light;
    • At least two metres of usable perch space and two pecking substrates per 1000 birds;
    • Improvement of air quality on farms (Annex 2.3 of the COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 2007/43/EC of 28 June 2007 laying down minimum rules for the protection of chickens kept for meat production);
    • No cages or multi-tier systems;
  5. Adopting controlled atmospheric stunning (CAS) using inert gas or multi-phase systems, or effective electrical stunning without live inversion, when this solution is available in industry;
  6. Demonstrating compliance with the above standards via third-party auditing and annual public reporting on progress towards European Chicken Commitment.

 

As working in a culture of continuous improvment at Res-Drob we create a goal-oriented team therefore regular reports of our welfare activity will be published, including progress on implementation of the European Chicken Commitment postulates.
